Wow. When my mom killed herself I wanted to go hide in a cave. I was so ashamed and didn't want anyone to know. You telling us all about his awesome service to our country and the rest of his life, and detailing your last day together, makes me think you are an incredibly strong woman. I hope your strength does not waver now, and helps you through this. We are survivors - believe in that. Take care.

Wow, indeed, as Z28... says. And thank you for sharing your pain and the honor that is your late husband. I hope that you can get some help and it sounds as though your husband is a prime case of PTS and that he deserved help from the military, 'though perhaps he would not have accepted it. I hope that you will. I hope, too, that you will not blame yourself — we do the best we can and sometimes it may not be enough for another person, but the other's choices are theirs. Hospice here has a superb grief counseling service. I would urge you to consult them or someone you trust, because pain remains and can eat away our foundations. We all need help; few have such a grievous loss as yours. Thanks for writing.

Mrs Meyers, Thank you for sharing your remarkable husband with us. Yes he is a hero, and I am heartbroken to hear he was not paid the respect he deserved by the Air Force.

You are a very brave/stron woman to put your personal business on-line and I truly admire you.

May God shine his light on you and your family. Barbara

" When Hooch arrived here at work, he was put in a cubby right across from me. He wasn't here at work very long, perhaps just over 4 months, but he turned out to be a great cubby neighbor. Little did we both know that our chit chats would eventually turn into some nice conversations. He always had a smile and a friendly 'good morning' to me and all of his coworkers. I referred to him as the Best Fighter Pilot I knew (well, he knew that he was the ONLY Fighter Pilot I knew..) I tried to cheer him up when he felt down, and gave him strong words of encouragement while he was trying to settle in to his new life here in California. His cubby is empty now, and I only wish that he would still be here. He told me of his days while at the Pentagon, about some of his missions in Iraq, and about how proud he was of his firefighter father and brothers. His eyes would light up when he spoke of his two beautiful daughters. I pray that the pain he felt during his last hours now brings him to rest. I miss his friendly smile. If his parents are reading this, I would love for them to know that he spoke of you fondly and wanted to shield you from any pain that he was feeling. Even though I did not know him long, I do know one thing, and that is that he loved you both very much. "

Words have a very small meaning coming from someone who knew only a fraction of who Harry was. Such is my case. All I really knew from the time I met Harry was that he Loved his daughters, Cared so very much about Liz's boys, and Loved Liz. We had few conversations about work, about his Military career and about him coming out and playing soccer with my team once his Achilles was better. He was extremely nice with my kids and with my Wife and I. The only thing that I wish would have gone different, and perhaps it would have made a difference between him being here today, is that I sincerely wish that we could of helped him deal with his "DEMONS". I know that when this tragedy occured, It was not Harry behind that Gun, It was one of his Demons. Rest in peace Hooch, I will always remember you as The Hooch I met During Christmas, Playing around with your Daughters, With Liz's Boys, and My boys. May you be in Peace, I know you finally conquered your fears. God bless.

My heart felt condolences go out to all of you. I am so very sorry for your loss. I know how much you meant to one another and how much u loved him.I love and miss you all very much, and wish I could be there to help you through it, but I know I will see you soon.
A friend of mine gave me this poem a while back and thought it really spoke volumes.

You Never
You never said I'm leaving
You never said goodbye
You were gone before I knew it,
And only God knew why
A million times I needed you,
A million times I cried
If Love alone could have saved you,
You never would have died
In Life I loved you dearly
In death I love you still
In my heart you hold a place,
That no one could ever fill
It broke my heart to lose you,
But you didn't go alone
For part of me went with you,
The day God took you home.

" To All:

Here is the description of my loving, caring, honest, and noble friend, Harold F. Meyers, who shall always be remembered and celebrated forever like this:

He is one heck of a man,
He is a decorated Air Force Fighter Pilot/War Hero,
He is the son and brother of Real Heroes, New York City' s Bravest and Finest
He is the proud, loving father of two beautiful daughters,
He is the stepfather to his wife's children,
He is the loving Uncle of nieces and nephews,
He has a brilliant career ahead of him with a dream job at Raytheon after a brilliant career with the United States Air Force.
He is warm, charming, intelligent, gentle, kind, sensitive and with a deprecating sense of humor.
He is in awe of his brothers and father's accomplishments and bravery and is inspired by them everyday of his life.
He loves flying his F-15 fearlessly in the Moonlight looking down at the Earth and over the country he loves and serves, the United States, and at the brilliant lights of New York City.
He is the coolest cat in the cockpit of an F-15, in the bucket seat of his Mustang , and behind the wheel of his boat.
There is no boundaries to his love for this country, his family and all of those close to his loving heart...

Harry is My Dear Friend and Hero
Forever Flying thru the Clouds in His F-15...

A Kiss Good Night Sweet Prince....

I first met Harry in 2nd grade, and we were good friends through the end of high school. I agree completely here, Harry earned everyone's respect, he was a great kid growing up, and knew where he wanted to go in life. We lost touch over the years, but he will never be forgotten. My prayers to his family. Godspeed Harry.

I met Harry in first grade, that picture is posted on my Facebook page. We continued through Grammar school together , Holy Family in Hicksville and then through high school together, Holy Trinity. The greatest thing about him was he was always a gentle soul with never a bad word to say about anyone. He had a great smile and made everyone who knew him glad that they had the privledge to.
God Bless you Harry....the world was a better place for having you in it!!

Harry was kind, funny and loyal. I went to school with him for eight years and we had some really, really fun times. My heart goes out to his family, and his dear friends. Thank you, Harry, and everyone in uniform, for what you do for all of us every day. It is not forgotten, it is awe inspiring and it is humbling. We owe you a debt we can only repay by being proud and involved Americans.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all the Meyers family. Reading what Dennis wrote about Harry and growing up in Levittown really struck a nerve. I grew up 4 houses down from Harry. We were in cub scouts, LAC Baseball and ran track all through grammar school. As sometimes happens, we ended up traveling in different circles in High school but you never forget the people who you grew up with, back when life was uncomplicated and you could just be kids. Harry achieved so much in life. His family and friends and the memories they have of him will be his legacy. Rest In Peace Harry.

Sometimes life offers no explanation no matter how desperate you are for answers. That said, I would like to offer a few words to Harry's family.

Mr and Mrs Meyers: I have not seen you in too many years, decades actually. I remember my days at your home vividly and I remember the energy Harry brought into a room. Perhaps that sounds strange considering I was a teen at the time, but that's how Harry impacted the world. Even a teen like myself -- a boy who cared less about anything but his own hair -- would stop in his tracks to admire Harry. I am so sorry for your loss, I wish you love and healing.

To Greg, Den and Mike. A part of your crew has left but he will never be gone. As brothers I know you will rally together to help your family heal as best it can. I wish there was something more I could offer than words. I wish you more of the strength and courage that makes you Meyers men.

To Elizabeth. You must be a lovely lady in order to capture the heart of a man like Harry Meyers. I am sorry for your loss.

To Harry's girls: It is you I cannot remove from my mind. As a man who has two girls of his own, I can tell you without question - you were the light in your daddy's world. As a boy and man who lost his parents in a way that is hard to describe, but even harder to accept, I tell you with all my heart, wisdom and experience... do everything you can to talk about what hurts inside. When people offer an ear and shoulder; take them up on the offer. From the pictures I've seen, you are both beautiful and full of life. Do not allow the spark in your eye to fade, your dad wouldn't want that.

Please know that well before your dad was an American hero, he was a local kid other kids looked up to. God bless you both.

To America and the military. We have lost one of our best soldiers. We need more people like Harry Meyers.

To Harry: I wonder if you remember me it's been that long. I cried a tear for you and your girls today. My flag is half staff -- it will be for some time. It will be half staff every Sept 13th. Rest in peace pal.

I can tell that Hootch has left a legacy filled with love of family…and country. Thanks for putting this site together.

I was fortunate to work with Hootch while he was at the Pentagon. He was a very busy man there. There was a lot of travel, a lot of meetings and briefings. He worked very hard and kept a fast pace. He never complained although I know it must have been difficult to balance with his home life. We worked requirements together and his proven combat experience, expertise and advocacy was of tremendous benefit to the decision makers in the Pentagon. While he would have rather been assigned to a flying squadron, his willingness to define and advocate the requirements, take care of the paperwork and brief the decision makers was of significant benefit to the Air Force and this nation. We went on several business trips together and had the opportunity to bond. I remember asking him about his family and watching his face light up. He took out his wallet and showed me pictures of his kids. He was very proud of his family…thank you all for the sacrifices you have made to make this country stronger. Hootch…I only wish I could have been there for you when you needed me.

We were not especially close friends, but I think that was because he moved from the Pentagon and I stayed in southeast Virginia. I wish I had stayed in closer contact with Hootch. From my perspective we established a bond of both friendship and respect. Hootch had an exemplary military record. Just look at the picture on this home page in his blues to see his numerous awards and decorations. He was highly decorated for serving his country…I am sure his family is also proud of his service. If I were able to have a younger brother I would choose Hootch. He had an active lifestyle, loved water skiing and snow skiing…things I also enjoy. I know he was an awesome dad. He was also a brother in arms who was willing to serve others or go into combat when called upon.

Hootch…you will be missed. Rest in peace.

To the family and friends of Harry "Hooch" Meyers; I am so sorry for your loss! I served with Harry from 1999-2001 flying Prowlers at Whidbey Island and combat in Norther Iraq. It was great to "Fly, Fight and Win" with Harry (Hooch). If had to pick one man to plan and fly a combat mission with, then it would be Lieutenant Colonel Harry Meyers. If you are unfortunately an enemy of the United States, and Harry Meyers was assigned on a mission against you, then prepare for the worst; because Harry Meyers is bringing the fight to you perniciously hard, fast, and with deadly accuracy. All who live in the land of the free owe a bit of gratitude to this Hero. As in the Tina Turner song; Harry was "Simply the Best". All those medals on his chest were earned for endless selfless service and sacrafice to our nation. Having just returned from Afghanistan myself, I won't be able to make it to the funeral. Please send me the location of his final resting place([email protected]), so that I can pay my respects at a later time. Sincerely, Lt Col Todd Callahan,

To Hootch’s family,

I am deeply sorry for your loss. As a long time comrade in the Air Force, I was deeply saddened to hear the news. Hootch is a big part of my Air Force memories, especially in the early years. He was an outstanding Fighter Navigator and a loyal squadron mate. If I was shot down over enemy territory, Hootch would be my first choice to have by my side. He was always above and beyond in carrying out the mission and in taking care of his buddies.

I met Hootch in Navigator School in 1989. Hootch and I were the two guys in our class to get fighters after completing Electronic Warfare School. I still remember him spraying me down on assignment night when I got a fighter, just after he got his. We attended all the training courses together to include F-111 and EF-111 training and were in the same EF-111 squadron for over five years. He beat me to the first deployment and I never caught up with him. He is the only person I know who out-deployed me and flew more combat flights and he did it while married and raising kids—I was single at the time. I am sure he would hold several USAF records if they kept them. We both went to Whidbey Naval Air Station to help stand up land-based EA-6B squadrons to support the USAF, then surprisingly we were in the same F-15E training class and the same F-15E fighter squadron at Lakenheath, UK. I departed England for the Pentagon, thinking we were finally going separate ways, only to see him walking the halls of the Pentagon a year later. We talked and caught up one more time. I always thought we would cross paths again—that’s the way it’s always been. I am sad that this is not to be. He was a bigger-than-life kind of guy and a great comrade.

I retired from the USAF last month and in my retirement bio, it listed the number of combat flights I flew on 11 deployments. As usual people commented that I must hold some kind of record, but I told them as I always do, “Well, there is this guy I know….”

Rest in peace, Hootch.

Captain America. That's the first thought that came to mind when I learned of Harry's death.

I graduated high school a few years after him with his brother Mike. Harry was big man on campus then: Class President (as I recall), star athlete, someone I wanted to be like. Mike and I don't cross paths as much as I would like but he always spoke highly of Harry's military accomplishments. I was always impressed...but never surprised.
I would like his entire family to know, and his children in particular that on Memorial Day I take my family to Jones Beach to watch the air show and each year when the Blue Angels or Thunder Birds scream by I say to my children, "I went to high school with a guy who's a fighter pilot and if you work hard you can be just like Harry Meyers". Your Dad inspires my children. I look forward to Memorial Day.

I want to extend my condolence to the entire Meyer's family and hope you draw some comfort from my post.

God speed Hootch - You are true American hero. I am proud to have served with Harry "Hootch" Meyers in the 494th Fighter Squadron in the UK. I was just one of countless airmen who benefited from Hootch's vast combat experience and consider him to be a good friend.

Dear Harry, Ceil and Family,

I can't find the words to express my sorrow regarding the loss of your son
Harold.

Harry, I know you are proud of all of your sons, but I remember you speaking fondly of "the one in the Air Force", and Ceil, I recall you flying to the west coast to see your granddaughters.

So much has changed in 9 years for all of us.

Please know that your family is in my thoughts at this time.

With love and respect,

To Hootch's Family,

I am proud to have served and flown with Hootch at Lakenheath. His military record reflects the service and sacrifice his family is known for, not the rampant careerism and promotions others often focus on. That immense chest full or medals and ribbons was hard earned and well deserved. This country owes your family a debt of gratitude we will be unable to pay you for Hootch’s service. Please know that my family is thinking of yours – We will remember him at his best and I hope you are able to as well.

To Hootch,

WOOOOLLLLIIIEE!! RIP, Brother. Some day we’ll have a couple shots of weed at a squadron bar somewhere. You will be missed.

To The Meyers Family:
I know for certain that we never lose the people we love, even to death. They continue to participate in every act, thought and decision we make. Their love leaves an indelible imprint in our memories. We find comfort in knowing that our lives have been enriched by having shared their love.

Elizabeth: Thank you for sharing Harry's legacy with us. It truly would have been an honor to have met him.

Mike: Although in time of sorrows there's so little one can say, please keep in mind that we love & care about you.

My heart hurts for your whole family. Just remember all the great moments you share and this will help you through the hardest days.

Life is not always what we think it should be but it is always the way it is supposed to be. Hard as it is to see now you will find strength within wake of his death for a greater purpose.

Elizabeth, Your words bring strength to all who read it and to you in writing it. For this I say thank you!!!

I want to thank you for bringing attention to the lack of support for PTSD. Through your words you are making the world aware of something that has plagued the military for a long time. Thank you!

I know you have a great support system and that I am a stranger to all of you but I am local and am here if you need anything. All you have to do is ask.

Harry,Ceil & Family

The Cordes Family would like to express our deepest sympathy and offer our condolences on the loss of your son Harry.

I heard this poem many years ago and I think it may explain Harry's love and passsion for his profession.

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sun ward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds - and done a hundred things

You have not dreamed of - wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence.Hovering there I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air.

Up, up the long delirious, burning blue,
I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or even eagle flew -
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high unsurpassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand and touched the face of God.

I met Harry in December of 1979 at Holy Trinity High School in the wrestling room. He had a smile on his face no matter how hot the room got or how hard he worked. He never stopped moving and never gave up on the mat. He was like a machine. Every guy on the team loved him and couldnt wait to watch him wrestle. We always knew the other guy didnt know what he was in for when Harry stepped onto the mat for a match. By sophmore year he was a force to be dealt with. Junior year he was the guy opponents all feared and didnt want to wrestle. A true champion. It was clear then the Harry was going to be a successful person in life. He was driven both on the mats and in the classroom. A true American hero RIP Gene Isnardi NYPD (ret) Holy Trinity

Hootch:

If you read this website dedicated to you, I know you would respond like you often did when asked about yourself or when I said you should write a book about your life and all your incredible accomplishments that no one could ever believe and you never talked about,
"What is the big deal, I do not deserve this, I am just a normal guy doing my job. Not true.

It is important that everyone know that story told to me that when your Dad met with President Bush immediately after 9/11 at the Command Post at Ground Zero, he told the President, I want you to put my oldest son to work right away.
When the President asked what that meant, your Dad replied, my son, USAF Hootch pilots an F-15E Strike Eagle, and can personally help to take care of the bad guys responsible for this.
The President obliged and Hootch, because of you and your brothers in arms , America, continues to be the land of the free and home of the brave.

Hootch, you chose to take a shortcut to Heaven and that was not supposed to be a chapter let alone a line in that book we talked about.

So, now, in sorrow and in pain, I join the Meyers Family and your extended family of friends all over the world in saying good bye.

I know that Heaven is a much safer and secure place because you , Hootch, are there.

With Love and Respect,

I knew Harry from when we both were very young, and then through grammar school and high school. I can honestly say that he was always a gentleman, a hard worker, and the nicest guy you'd ever want to meet. Even as a kid he was a leader, and always "set the example," even when he thought no one was looking. My prayers and condolences go out to the entire Meyers family. God bless you all.

Dear Aunt Ceil & Uncle Harry,

It is with a heavy heart that I write this...there are not enough words to express my deepest sorrow for the loss of your precious son Harold.

I do have some fond memories of my cousin Harry that I would hope will bring a smile and some comfort at this time. My memories with Harry were from our "childhood days" when everything is happy and carefree! (These are the best times in my opinion when we are children when the only thing that seems to be difficult is to see if mom and dad will let us stay up late..) We had alot of fun times when Harry, Mike, Dennis and Greg would visit by coming over to play way back in the days of Hausmann street, Lynn and I were tom-boys so we all got along well. There were also fun times at the beach in Keansburg and alot of fun when we would come out to your house in Levittown. I loved that tree house!!

Then real life happens, we grow up and life comes at us fast and then we're adults with our own children and we do the best we can for them like our parents did for us..I can tell you with every visit to Aunt Glayds (Nana) came an expression of love and pride for not only Harry but for all your sons and yourself uncle Harry.

Harry left a legacy to be remembered for not only an American Hero but also as a great dad, husband, brother, nephew, cousin, grandson, etc. but most of all as "your son". In viewing his tribute page I saw a man of great honor and love and will always remember him in that way....I think I can speak not only for myself but for my mom & dad, Brian and Lynn in that we will always keep Harry and his beautiful family in our thoughts and prayers........

May you find that inner peace when thinking of your treasured moments you had with Harry that only a mom and dad know.....MaryEllen

With heartfelt sorrow for the family, I would like you to continue to be proud of Harold - he remained unselfish at the peril of his own life. He was an honorable man. Even foreign countries have written about his missions, his patriotism and all of you (pretty much) have to follow in his footsteps - sure it won't be easy (like his lovely daughter Jessica). A collective prayer for all of you to catch a film I just saw yesterday with Javier Bardem (Mare adentro) The sea within a man. It will show you that there is nobility, pride, respect and honor in death too. Not an easy concept to follow, and it's normal that it remains painful, but your understanding will get closer to Harold's point of view. May the good Lord give you guidance to do what is best for you in these difficult times.

Respectfully,

I have another comment (yet from another film - this time "Saving private Ryan", the quote goes:

"Gen. George C. Marshall: I have here a very old letter, written to a Mrs. Bixby in Boston. "Dear Madam: I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant-General of Massachusetts that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle. I feel how weak and fruitless must be any words of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering to you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom. Yours very sincerely and respectfully, Abraham Lincoln."

I am proud to be related to Harry Meyers. As my younger cousin, I vividly remember him as being polite and happy. This positive demeanor was enhanced because the majority of the times I encountered him growing-up he was visiting his grandparents in Brooklyn or on the “Jersey Shore.” Wonderful times and people! My sisters always viewed him the same way: respectful, pleasant and kind.

Harry was an exceptional member of the United States Air Force as evidenced by the career delineated in this website which can only begin to be expressed with words such as compelling, inspirational and heroic! Impressive underscores describing such a career!

My sincere sympathies on his loss to my Aunt Ceil, Uncle Harry, his brothers, wife, step-son and daughters. My condolences extend to the loyal extended family, friends and brave fellow members of the United States Air Force who all truly loved and respected him.

It was an honor to hear of Harry's military exploits, as well as his sense of humor, this day.

Harry - you have personally made this world a better place, thank you.

I remember probably 30+ years ago, Harry and my brother comparing notes on airplanes and pilots and anything that had to do with the whole aeronautical thing and in the following years Harry still followed that dream.
He was without a doubt a special guy in that he was always!!! a gentleman, except for on the wrestling mat.
I would think about him every time I saw a fighter jet knowing he did what he dreamt of doing and am deeply saddened that he is no longer with us.
My deepest sympathies to all affected

Don't worry, you have a real Guardian Angel watching over you. Your Dad is by your side every step of the way. My Father (Retired DC FDNY 1980) died in 2002 (4 Months after 9/11/01), he suffered terribly with Alzheimers the last two years of his life. I was always the "Pain-in-the-neck as far as the family went. One of his staunch Irish sayings was "If you take God out of your life, you'll let the devil in". I miss our philosophical Sunday discussions but I know in my heart, that he is right by my side, especially when I'm going down a dirty , smokey hallway. You have a Guardian Angel in your Dad too. Hey jess,
You know i always have something to say...you know? Like some stupid joke or something but right now...I've just been sitting here typing a sentence then deleting it. What do i say? That it's okay, that i understand? But it's not and i don't...so what can i say? Everything that you and your dad did together, remember. Remember those times when you were like "omgg dad ur so weird or ommg ur so lame." Remember those. Put them in a jar and seal it so that whenever you feel sad or lonely you have his laugh right there in a convenient place. Jessica you are an amazingly strong person not only are you good at arm wrestling but swimming and running too. And i know that your dad is in a better place but you and i know that him watching you run and swim would make that place even better. Stay strong jess I know this is hard, i know that some days you wake up and do not want to do anything except sit there and cry. But I know you better then that you can get through this, for you and your sister. Miss you jess, i really do.
Love you,
Jazz
P.S. I read that you tried to talk to him...believe me. He's listening but you have to listen too, watch the signs you should be able to see a few =]

I would like to revisit a wonderful memory of Harry.

Memories of him and times that made us kids are what I remember most.

This is a scenario that occurred everytime you guys visited Brooklyn:

My Father, Mother or brother Brian would inform my sister MaryEllen and me that the "boys" were over. ( We knew that meant our cousins, Harry, Michael, Dennis and Greg).
Mare, and I would run across the street to 41 Hausman and ring both doorbells. We would wait until Grandma Shirley opened the door, with her poodle "Bambi" by her side, (barking of course!), as we entered into the hallway, Aunt Gladys (Nana) would open her door and "Midnight" and "Tippy" would barrel down the stairs. Behind those two huge black dogs would be the boys. For a few minutes we would all be in the small hallway- Grandma, Aunt Glays, Harry, Mike, Dennis, Greg, Mare, me, and the dogs,it was pure KAOS! None of us paid any mind to the slobbering, barking dogs, kissing and jumping all over us, we just pushed them aside and ran outside to "play".Simple.

It's a shame life can't be that simple all the time.

Aunt Ceil and Uncle Harry, I am lost for words. I hope it gets a little easier to deal with as time passes. I am truly sorry for the loss of your son, your HERO, and one of America's TRUE HERO'S.

Harry, YOU alone, made a positive difference for the United States of America, you are truly an AMERICAN HERO and I sincerley THANK YOU.

Sincerley,

Harry/Hootch:

You are in my thoughts today, your 44th birthday.

I know you hated the thought of getting older and it was sort of a pet peeve of yours to even admit your age.

I know you could fly circles around everybody five items and they could not keep up with you so birthdays and age were not an issue in your Hootch world.

I wish so much that everything was different.

I wish I could think of you celebrating today with your family and receiving birthday wish calls, emails and gifts from everyone.

I cannot believe you left us so soon, so abruptly that we never got a chance to see you, talk to you , hug you or soothe you or today, wish you a happy birthday.

But today, I am thinking of you on your birthday in Heaven and hope you know how much we miss and cherish the memory of you...

With love and respect,

KB

To Harry's Family and Friends,

I graduated high School with Harry many years ago. Harry made everyone feel important and that he was their friend.
I am a better person for having known him. My prayers are with you all.

I met Harry "Hooch" in Squadron Officer's School in 1993. I was in his class. He was a good man and friend. I'm so greatful he died happy with a wonderful family. I know you must miss him terribly. May God bless and keep you and give you peace. My prayers are with you and your family. Sincerely, Judy "Bachman" Meek. PS I still have a Syracuse sweat shirt he gave me. I was wondering if his daughter would like it? Please let me know.

It has been over 20 years since Harry and I met at the 'Cuse. Even then I knew he was destined for greatness. It does not surprise me that he served our country so well and decorated. We lost touch since our days at the 'Cuse but he was not forgotten. You will be missed!

Hootch

Today is Memorial Day...

A day to remember you and your patriotic family who bravely go on without your shining light...

A day to remember your heroics serving our country without fear without fame without fanfare flying that F-15 around the globe ensuring that our country remains the home of the brave and land of the free...

You are remembered and honored today for being a true American War Hero...

You are dearly missed...

With Love and Respect,

On the anniversary of two related tragedies, I wanted to reach out to Harry's family. I only recently heard of Harry's tragic death. I knew Harry at Syracuse and my (now) husband was is RA his sophomore year. I saw the notice in the alumni bulletin and hoped it wasn't the Harold Meyers I knew. But when I found this site and saw the black/white silhouetted photo on Jessica's page, I couldn't deny it any longer. That same photo is in my college albums. I am so grateful that his family created this site. I remember Harry as a dedicated, driven, passionate, athletic artistic, fun person. While we lost touch after sophomore year, I am not surprised to see so many of those traits woven through the remembrances of family and friends in the tributes above. Harry was a great friend then and became an equally remarkable soldier, father and husband. My prayers go out to those he left behind.

Hootch:

Today is 9/11...

A day of tragedy for our country, that weighed so heavily on your mind and in your heart everyday ...

Tomorrow is 9/12...

A day of tragedy for all of us, when you left to get back in that cockpit of your F-15 and fly back up into your comfort zone and join all the bright stars in Heaven...

You are remembered with love and respect today and everyday as a dear friend and Hero...

Liz, Jes and Cassy,
I served with Harry in VAQ-142 in Whidbey and again in Iraq with JCCS-1. So many stories I'd love to share, and I don't even know where to start.

I left Iraq about a month before Harry, and had been trying to find him ever since. All of the email addresses I had for him didn't work and I lost his cell number. From time to time, I've tried google and Facebook searches for him and didn't have any luck until I found this...not what I was expecting to find. I'm devastated. He was one of my best friends and the type of person that I'd gladly work with again whether we were going to fight bad guys or open a car repair shop together.

Jes and Cassy - I watched you girls grow up as tiny little toddlers when you lived in WA. Your dad talked so much about you both when we were in Iraq together. He mentioned the thing he hated the most in the divorce was not getting to see you two. But, he was so proud of both of you.

Liz - His face would light up when talked about you and how he felt like he was getting a new chance at happiness. I know you brought him great joy.

Hooch - I miss you brutha! I know many people never understood you. I did. That's why we got along so well. I know you've struggled with your demons and I pray you are now at peace. I so wish I could have found you sooner.

To the family - I have some pics of Harry if you would like them, please email me at: [email protected] It would be my honor to share them with you.

In sympathy,
"Velcro"

My mourn with you, family of Harold Meyers. As well as with all the families of those people - for example 3y.o. Militsa Rakitch - who lost their lifes from the actions of the VAQ-142, JCCS-1 etc.

Praise Jesus you have so wonderful daughter who, of course, will miss her daddy forever - you are lucky, Mrs. Meyers to have her alive.

Your husband did everything right.

Dear Elizabeth, Jessica, Chief Harry and Cecelia,

Elizabeth I never got to meet you and Harry and I lost touch some years ago. Chief and Mrs Meyer's you may remember me as I was Harry's Flight Commander at Mather AFB, Ca. long ago. I just retired 2011 after 29 years. I was just sitting here an thought of Harry when I saw an old photo of him at my home. I say this in earnst Harry was my favorite student of all time. I remember watching his eyes light up when we talked about my younger days in the F-4. I remember how bummed he was when they shut down the pipeline to it, but how he carried on in the EF-111 and Prowlers! We kept in touch for years with Christmas Letters but with my 15 official and 4 more local moves we lost touch. I am ashamed of that now. I attended his first Wedding and visited your home in LI. Harry and I would wrestle around and felt him like the younger brother I didn't have. Chief Harry, you were on seen at the WTC Bombing and helped find my Mom who was the General Ops Supervisor at the Port Authority on B-2 level in the early nineties. For Harry's Children, Wife, Mom Dad, Siblings & Family, I know no words that can help from me. Know only that I knew and loved him as a Warrior, Friend, and like a younger Brother. His Eyes had such passion and his heart was huge! I'm so very sorry and will pray for Harry and all of you you all each Day and especially each time I visit the Grotto of Lourdes at Notre Dame University. My Heart aches today! I feel low so very low. I would love to talk with you and send you pictures I have of Harry if you are interested. Children, Sorry for your terrrible loss. Harry "Hootch" Meyers, Gone but never Forgotten! That Man was a Success! RIP, Check Six, Illegitimi non carborundum, Good Luck GOD Bless Harry, GO IRISH!

Liz, Jes and Cassey,

I served with Hootch in VAQ-142 while deployed to PSAB and Incirlik, Turkey in 1999/2000. I was crewed with him right when I showed up in PSAB, and his professionalism and knowledge struck me right away. We always had fun in the jet, and we always knew when it was time to get business done. We sometimes had differences, but we could always talk it out and make the situation better.

I saw him a few years ago as I was getting ready to fly my Alaska jet out of Las Vegas, and although we only spoke a few minutes, it was good to see him again. We parted shaking hands and laughing.

I am sorry for your loss. This nation is a better place because of him.

He will be missed!!

Much time has passed since that ol' blue Pinto wagon cranked tunes in the Trinity parking lot. Back then Harry devoted hours to wrestling. The only guy I will ever know to wear out a weight bench. He was a nature athlete. And Fun. Whatever he did he put his whole self into, nothing short of 100%. I am glad that he accomplished in life and served his country. I am very sorry for the loss of the many that loved him, and the loss to those whom he would have known. A great guy.

I knew Harry at Syracuse, we were freshmen together on the same floor and were friends while I was there. We both came from tough military families and wrestled and we used to talk about becoming astronauts. I remember he had a girlfriend that used to come to visit and he would suddenly be nowhere to be found until she left. I have a couple of pictures of us doing shots and horsing around in Lawrinson Hall. Rest in Peace old buddy.
